ConstructionConstruction company Kapitol Group engaged Blue Diamond Machinery to supply construction power for their 18 story build-to-rent project in Preston, Victoria. The site only had access to 63 amps of power, which was insufficient to operate construction equipment like electric cranes and hoists. Â
The solution needed to efficiently power high load construction equipment while meeting site noise regulations and the company’s broader ESG targets. Â
Blue Diamond Machinery supplied Kapitol Group with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Replacing diesel as the primary source of construction power, BESS are specially designed to handle the surging loads of construction equipment like tower cranes. Â
Using lithium-ion batteries, BESS have a carbon footprint 70-90% lower than a diesel generator equivalent. The battery powers the site, and only calls on a backup generator, solar or the grid to charge the unit when the battery depletes. It also has a noise footprint 30x less than a diesel generator, so it’s an ideal solution for urban construction sites like Kapitol Group’s with noise restrictions in place. Â
Since deploying the BESS, the site has experienced a significant decrease in carbon emissions and fuel consumption. Not to mention, a reduction in environmental hazards associated with fuelling multiple generators across a project. The BESS have also eliminated diesel expenditure and addressed previous noise complaints from generators running 24/7. Â
For Kapitol Group, the result is an overall healthier, safer construction site.Â
